How to optimise your food and drink displays

There’s much more to creating an optimal food or drink display than the average customer ever realises. Factors range from the type of fridge to the colour coordination of the brands on the shelves. Getting it right will boost sales; getting it wrong means a drop.

On this page, we’ve put together a few quick tips about refrigerated food and drink displays. Get in touch to discuss our thoughts in more detail with a commitment-free, friendly chat.

Keep your best-sellers at customer eye-level

Customers don’t buy what’s nearest their hands – they go for whatever’s at eye level. Placing stock you know doesn’t sell well at these levels means people are likely to look at it and move on. They’ll also miss your more lucrative, appealing products because they’re out of sight. Overall, it’s a lose-lose – the customer doesn’t get what they want, and you don’t sell anything.

Instead, place your best-sellers – which should be apparent from your sales logs – in the direct line of sight. The rest of your inventory will still sell, but it’s more dependent on people looking for it directly. That means it’s less important for creating a good food or drink display fridge.

Know your food hygiene

Make sure you know and are up to date with food hygiene standards for display and storage of food that is in the cold chain (kept refrigerated). Especially when it comes to display and storage of fresh and cooked meat, fresh fish, dairy product (milk, cheese etc). A good place for advice is the UK governments Food Standards Agency also you can often get advice from the Environmental Health Safety Team at your local council.

Organise your displays logically

The previous section is one such example of illogical displays. The human brain likes patterns (whether someone knows it or not). It’s a simple comfort, but one that we all crave. For example, when you walk into a supermarket, you want to know where the drinks aisle is. You’ll then turn to the meat section or the deli area before heading past the wine chiller and the freshly baked cakes. A place for everything and everything in its place.

Now imagine that you find a drinks display halfway through the meat section. It throws customers off by looking unappealing and making it difficult to find your products. Instead, opt for a logical and straightforward layout. Keep your food and drink displays in their relevant areas.

Using multiplexable displays

Multiplex display fridges (like the Galaxy range options) are one of the best ways to showcase large amounts of food or drink. These have a much more impactful visual effect on customers and maintain an aesthetic throughout a section or the entire store. Multiplex fridges are also (in general) more energy efficient than standalone units. You could see fairly significant savings on your utility bills. This is extremely important, given the current economic crisis.

Branding and colour-coordinating your displays

Branding is one of those sure-fire ways to add value to your business, although nobody yet knows exactly how to quantify it. Adding your logo and creating a consistent aesthetic subconsciously draws people back. Colour-coordinated displays also add to this appearance. In general, the nicer the space, the more likely customers will associate your franchise with good quality and return.

TEFCOLD recommends the Galaxy range

You could consider several options for an optimised food and drink display. However, we’d encourage you to look into the Galaxy range. These display fridges are modern and relatively unique in design. They’re also multiplexable, meaning it’s easy to outfit an entire store and save on energy costs.

Galaxy multidecks are a great option. Here at TEFCOLD, we also offer bespoke solutions, such as branding and colouring. As such, you could get yourself a consistent display range across multiple locations. To ask us any more questions about the Galaxy multideck range or enquire about other solutions, why not drop us an email? We’re always glad to hear from new and previous clients. Our friendly team will happily walk you through your options and explain how different fridges can help make an enticing food or drink display.
